About
I am an ontologist, ontology engineer, and knowledge engineer based in the Netherlands.
My work focuses on semantic artifacts: conceptual models, ontologies, vocabularies, mappings, metadata resources, and knowledge graphs. I work across foundational, conceptual, and computational levels, with recurring use of UFO/gUFO, OntoUML, RDF, OWL, SHACL, SPARQL, and related Semantic Web technologies.
Current professional context
- Role: Senior Metadata and Semantics Specialist at Health-RI
- Technical focus: Semantic interoperability, metadata, ontology-based modeling, mappings, and FAIR-aligned semantic resources
Health-RI is one current application context. My broader professional focus is domain-independent ontology engineering and knowledge engineering: making meanings explicit, traceable, implementable, and maintainable across models, standards, systems, and organizations.
Background
Before Health-RI, I held research positions at the University of Twente, Ghent University, and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.
That work centered on UFO, OntoUML, applied ontology, conceptual modeling, resilience modeling, OWL ontologies, and Semantic Web technologies.
Earlier professional work included ontology engineering for information and knowledge management, and information-security and business-continuity work in the banking sector.
